HopSkipDrive, a ride service for families and their children, laid off 10% of its team on March 13. A company executive provided Layoffs.fyi a list of the laid-off employees (see belowπ). Demand for HopSkipDrive’s service has been affected by kids staying home from school.

π Toronto, Chicago, NYC β π©βπΌ 196 employees (54%) β π₯ All departments
Ritual, a food ordering app for takeout, laid off the majority of their staff today (see link below for the list π). The company cut 196 employees, primarily in their Toronto HQ but also in its U.S. locations. Business was severely impacted by restaurants closing down and people working from home.

- KeepTruckin, which helps trucking companies manage their fleets, laid off 349 employees (18%). This comes just one month after the companyβs previous round of layoffs.
- Thumbtack, a marketplace for local services like cleaners and plumbers, laid off 250 employees (30%). Due to shelter-in-place, business has fallen by over 50% in markets like San Francisco, Detroit, and New York City.

- Rover, a dog-walking and pet-sitting service, laid off 194 employees (41%). Pet owners no longer need Rover’s service because they’re now staying at home.

- RigUp, which provides labor services to the energy industry, laid off 120 employees (25%). Oil and gas companies are in the middle of an economic downturn.

- Turo, a car-sharing company, laid off 108 employees (30%). Consumers are no longer renting cars because of shelter-in-place. Competitor Getaround also conducted recent layoffs.

- PatientPop, which helps healthcare providers manage the patient experience, laid off 100 employees, according to a LinkedIn post by an ex-employee.

- uShip, which makes shipping software, laid off 65 employees (37%).

- Showpad, which makes software to improve sales teams’ productivity, laid off 52 employees (12%). It blamed the economic fallout caused by the coronavirus.

- PeerStreet, a crowdfunding platform for investing in real estate loans, laid off 30% of their staff (50+ employees), according to an HR employee. Layoffs.fyi was the first to report the news.
π Nashville, Chicago, SF β π©βπΌ 349 employees (18%) β π₯ Mostly sales and business roles
KeepTruckin, which helps trucking companies manage their fleets, laid off 349 employees today (see link below for the list π). This comes just one month after the company’s previous round of layoffs. KeepTruckin expects new customer acquisition to slow and existing customers to churn due to small trucking companies going out of business.

π Los Angeles β π©βπΌ 50+ employees (30%) β π₯ All departments
PeerStreet, a crowdfunding platform for investing in real estate loans, laid off 30% of their staff yesterday. According to an HR employee, the company let go over 50 employees across multiple departments (see link below for the listπ). PeerStreet is the first fintech startup to do a layoff post-COVID 19, but the 3rd one beginning with “Peer” (along with Peerspace and Peerfit).

π Palo Alto β π©βπΌ 300 employees (25%) β π₯ Customer support, recruiting, sales
TripActions, whose software helps companies manage corporate travel, laid off 300 workers last week (see link below for the listπ). The layoffs primarily affected customer support, recruiting, and sales. The company blamed the layoff on the decline in business travel, but got flack for notifying employees about the news via a group Zoom call.

Peerspace, a marketplace for booking space for events and meetings, laid off a majority of their staff last week (see link below for the listπ). The company has seen bookings slow and cancellations increase dramatically due to social distancing measures.

Bird, the electric scooter company, laid off 30% of staff, or 406 employees (see link below for the listπ). Bird had already paused its services in many markets in response to the coronavirus. Scooter companies are reeling from the pandemic — in January, competitor Lime laid off 100 employees and is expected to do another round of layoffs shortly.

We previously mentioned that Zeus Living, which rents out furnished apartments on a monthly basis to business travelers, laid off 80 employees. We now have a list of affected employees (see link belowπ). The list spans across engineering, product, and business roles.
